Security and Access Control Technician

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Install, program, test, repair, and service the electronic security solutions and equipment including: magnetic locks, electric strikes, electrified handle sets, electric hinges, access card readers, motion sensors, request to exit buttons, power supplies, wireless controllers/readers, door controllers, cameras and low-voltage wiring.
- Install, test, repair and service locks and door hardware including hinges, door openers/closers, handle sets, cores, pins, latches and other door related hardware.
- Run electrical wiring in attics, crawl spaces, and other confined spaces, which can include drilling, trenching and aerial runs.
- Complete all wiring, connections, and equipment installations ensuring that security systems are complete and satisfy customer and contractual requirements.
- Conducts tests to ensure all newly installed systems and component devices are operational.
- Inspect completed work for conformance with specifications, requirements, and compliance with applicable building and safety codes and regulations.
- Reads basic blueprints, schematics, manuals, and other specifications to determine installation procedures; interprets manual, schematics, and wiring diagrams, and repairs equipment, utilizing knowledge of electronics and using standard test instruments and hand tools.
- Operate systems to demonstrate functionality, commission new systems, analyze performance and identify malfunctions.
- Serves as the backup for other access controls technicians on the team.
- Consult with various technical support to resolve problems in system operation, maintenance, and warranty work.
- Use troubleshooting skills to isolate and fix problems in malfunctioning equipment or software.
- Work closely with the Access Controls Administrator and/or Access Controls Project Coordinator and assists in the overall coordination of specific projects; make recommendations regarding quality of work and potential changes in scope, and identify ways to continuously improve tenant satisfaction.
- Ability to work after hours and be on-call.
- Seek technical guidance from more experience staff for difficult and unusual situations.
- Complete job tickets and other required work documents.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as requested or required.
Qualifications:
- Education: High School Degree or GED Equivalent.
- Have a basic understanding and configuration of IP Networking principals and components (Routers, Switches, POE, Cable Termination, etc.).
- Certifications for Genetec, AXIS, CCTV, IP Video, and IP Networking are considered a plus.
- Experience with Genetec, AXIS, CCTV, and IP Video are considered a plus.
Additional Knowledge, Skills, Licenses/Certifications, Abilities, and Personal Characteristics:
- Mechanically inclined and proven ability to troubleshoot problems and look for solutions.
- Must be a self-starter and work well without supervision.
- Solid mechanical and electrical aptitude (e.g. works with a variety of hand and power tools such as drill, screwdriver, wire stripper, hacksaw, crimper) and ability to read blueprints and drawings.
- Frequent visits to job sites are required.
- Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Solid organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Must acquire all appropriate licenses and certifications to operate equipment needed to perform tasks, as required by management and maintain in good standing at all times.
- Understanding of how a networked access controls system works.
- Must be detail oriented, highly organized, a team player and a quick learner with a positive attitude.
- Mechanically inclined and proven ability to troubleshoot problems and look for solutions.
- Must possess and maintain in good standing at all times a valid State issued driver’s license.
- Ability to operate company vehicle safely and in compliance with applicable state laws and company policies.
- Ability to demonstrate a proficiency in the use of desktop and laptop PCs.
- Ability to demonstrate a working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
- Must be detail oriented, highly organized, a team player and a quick learner with a positive attitude.
- Able to demonstrate respect for all individuals, adhere to the Company’s values and business practices and do both consistently.
- Consistent performance and attendance.
Physical Requirements:
- Use hand tools and test equipment such as hand and power tools, drills, screwdrivers, wire strippers, hacksaws, and crimpers.
- Ability to lift, pull and lower equipment manually.
- Ability to perform work at a desk, or in a crouched, kneeling, stooping or squatting position for extended periods of time.
- Ability to work from aerial devises, ladders, platforms utilizing safety harness, body belt and safety trap.
- Must be able to regularly lift up to 50lbs.
Working Conditions:
- This is a full-time position. Hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm with a 1 hour, unpaid lunch.
- May require working long hours, weekends, or on-call as needed.
- Work either in the field or in a shop/office environment.
- May work in severe weather conditions.
- Exposure to radio frequency energy levels complying with OSHA safe limits.
